Caesar stopped talking as if someone was squeezing his throat. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and murmured, "There's no cure."
Maurice's gaze sharpened.
The pressure was so intense that not only Caesar but even Maurice's men fell silent from it. The silence was deafening.
"There's no cure?" Maurice repeated. After a long pause, he suddenly laughed. His chilling gaze locked onto Caesar as he said slowly, "I'll give you one chance to correct yourself. How do you cure it?"
Caesar nearly choked.
This was bad! Maurice was being unreasonable by demanding a solution that didn't exist.
To be honest, Maurice had never been this extreme even when he was wheelchair-bound. But now, he wanted an answer. He allowed no refusal.
Caesar asked, "Mr. Glovers, who has been infected with the Heart Eater? Is it you? Hold out your hand, and I'll check your pulse…"
Halfway through his sentence, he caught sight of Maurice's impatience, and a terrible realization struck him.
Could it be… Maurice was helping Felicia from Khogend?
Caesar's expression shifted. One moment, he looked like he was choking back tears. The next, he seemed torn and was hesitant to speak.
Before Maurice could lose patience and throw him out, Caesar finally sighed helplessly. "There's only one way."
"And what's that? Speak," Maurice pressed.
"Using twin venomous creatures to transfer the Heart Eater to another person. The second host will bear all the effects and control of the Heart Eater," Caesar stated solemnly. "There's no other method."
