In the past, Imogen had never let Johanna lift a finger. She treated Johanna like her own sister, sparing no expense to shower her with gifts, clothes, and jewelry. She even enrolled Johanna in a prestigious school with an annual tuition fee of over a million dollars, giving her every opportunity to polish her future.
Thinking back now, all that effort had been wasted.
Johanna was dumbfounded and pointed at herself in disbelief. "Me? You want me to do it? Isn't cleaning the table the maid's job? Why should I do it?"
Imogen replied calmly, "It's just clearing the table, Johanna. Are you really unwilling to do even that?"
"Obviously, I..." Johanna was about to blurt out her refusal, but she caught the warning glance from Archie.
Johanna reluctantly stood up and started cleaning the table with an annoyed expression.
Meanwhile, Archie helped Imogen lie down, continuing his attentive act by serving her refreshments. Once he deemed the timing appropriate, he sighed and said slowly, "Darling, you should prepare yourself for what's coming with Mr. Russell."
Imogen's heart sank.
Some thoughts she hadn't had time to piece together before suddenly became clear as day.
A man who had faked his death for nearly six months suddenly returned. And on the very day he came back, Stephan was poisoned. At the time, the only people who had direct contact with Stephan were the Russell family's trusted aides and... Archie.
So, the reason for Archie's return...
Imogen clenched her fists, but she feigned sadness and sobbed out the words, "He's my only family left. It's my fault this happened to him. I'll never forgive myself if something happens to him!"
"Darling, this isn't your fault. Don't overthink it," Archie comforted her. "But if news spreads, the Russell family's relatives and enemies will come for our throats!"
