AUGUSTUS...

"I have settled Gavin for Luna, as you wanted," Mateo said after he returned to the office, dropping Charlotte home.

"Hmm." I hummed solely.

So many thoughts are going around my head.

"Alpha." Mateo's tone turned my attention to him as I raised my brow at him.

"What happened?"

His expression was mixed with confusion and worry since he returned dropping my mate home.

"Did you notice the difference in Luna?" He asked, well alert of my mood change.

No matter who the person is, no one should talk against my mate. Or I would make life living hell for that werewolf, even if it is my most loyal man and friend.

"What do you mean?"

My tone turned colder. Even though I know what he meant, it's something I can't hear about her. She became my deepest obsession and I would keep her to myself at any cost.

He sighed and stepped forward.

"Augustus, I know you don't like a word against her. And I respect your love and loyalty toward your mate." He spoke, sitting at my opposite.

Mateo hardly gets into his best friend mode. When he does, that is a serious issue.

"But, you also know that Charlotte does not like to be with you. It's one of the saddest truths for a wolf and the hardest to accept. We all know about your relationship and how she kept running away for two years continuously."

I heard his words, which made my fists clench as my jaw set firmly.

He continued, "Even just a few days ago she tried to run away from you and you once again Brought her to the Mansion. All of us were used to it until her sudden change in behaviour! I mean, the girl who used to despise even your shadow, suddenly started clinging to you as if you work like her oxygen!"

He wracked his fingers in his hair, seeming frustrated.

"Don't you think something is wrong with her? She has never acted like this before! It's like, her sudden devotion toward you jzd another meaning!"

His every word was a punch to my heart and it ached really bad. I loved her for two years and I still do love her.

I don't know how I work for her but she definitely works for me as my oxygen. My only way to breathe. Without her, me and Damon ate nothing. Our whole existence belongs to her only.

The frustration Mateo is going through is not unnecessary. I also felt the same at her sudden acceptance of everything. Of me in her life.

When she came to me to send lunch. Or,  when she claimed to be mine before Roy. Or, after that when she opened herself before me.

Every moment was so precious to me and if I could I would have captured those moments to play them again and again in my life. But sadly, this is real life and not any reel.

I have waited for her acceptance for fuckung two years! And when she gave it to me, there is something else behind it. Maybe, a plan she figured out?

"Augustus? You heard me, right? Do you think it was a good idea to let her move freely?" Mateo asked again, getting my attention on him.

"She was fed up with quarrels and running away behind my back, that's why she changed her plans this time," I stated.

"Huh? What do you mean?"

I stood up and turned around the huge French window behind my desk, as I closed the few inches that were between the window and me.

Looking at the clear afternoon sky, my lips curved into a bitter smirk.

"She is just playing with me. With my mind. Every time she tried to oppose me and it caused her imprisonment. I never stopped chasing her. So now, she is trying to gain my trust in her, so that I believe her and she does what she wants. Run away."

"Wh..what!?" I felt Mateo's stunned voice.

"If you are sure about it, then why are you allowing her to do things? Why did you set her free? What will you do when she will leave you again this time? I swear Augustus, this time you will be hurt much more because this time she is gaining your trust and being submissive."

"I know," I replied simply.

"Fuck!" He cursed under his breath. "Then why indulging her still?"

I sighed for the first time in a day. "That's because I can't resist when she approached me. I can't let the moment go even after knowing this is just a trick she is playing."
