Helen Smith, meanwhile, was using one of the smaller paths to get back, together with Tristan and Julian Nason.
Hailey and Lilith were holding up the reeds to blow on them, so that their filaments flew off and went sailing through the air, like dandelion seeds.
The reed filaments flew past Jasper’s window, drawing his attention over to the two little girls, huffing and puffing away there like goldfish.
Seeing the expensive-looking car, Lara realized there must be someone important inside, so she pulled the little girls away to the side of the road. “Hales, Lils, stop blowing on those reeds. It’s making a mess all over that car.”
Hailey was having so much fun that her chubby little face was now as round and red as an apple. With her hair done up in a pair of pigtails, she was absolutely adorable.
“But it makes the car look nicer! I like it!” she said sweetly, cute as can be.
Jasper watched them with dark eyes. He usually didn’t take much interest in kids, but these two little girls were such pretty things… one of them had her pigtails bouncing with each step she took; the other was chic and cool, wearing a cap underneath a pink bunny-eared hoodie.
There was something special about these two… he felt his heart warming towards them.
“You may like it, but maybe they don’t,” Lara pointed out. “Let’s step aside and let them through first.”
Hailey looked closer at the passengers inside the car. Her big brown eyes lit up.
“Hey, I think I’ve seen that guy somewhere before!” He seemed familiar to her.
Tyson rubbed his forehead. Nowadays, even such young children knew all sorts of lines…
Lilith looked up, lifting the brim of her cap to see for herself. When she saw Jasper, her eyes sparkled like stars. “Wow… he’s so handsome!”
Being praised by these pretty little things was really having an effect on Jasper. His lips began to show the faintest hint of a smile.
Whose daughters were they? Such sweet things they were… and so very, very pretty indeed…
Fearing to cause offense, Lara hurried to correct the girls: “Enough of your nonsense, now. A fine gentleman like him doesn’t need your flattery.”
“You’re so handsome, mister! Would you like to meet my mommy?” Hailey called out cheerfully. “Grandma’s been trying to find a husband for her, but she won’t have to if mommy already has a boyfriend.”
