Hailey trotted over to Lara and grabbed the corner of her shirt. Looking up with huge sparkling eyes, she said, “Grandma, don’t be so mean to Mommy. She works very hard. We don’t want milk anymore, so please don’t scold her.”
Julian got out of Rachel’s embrace, too and went over to Lara. The little boy looked up with his lovely face and urged softly, “Grandma, we’ll earn a lot of money when we grow up. We’ll buy you and Mommy a big house. Can you let Mommy take a break?”
Tristan who was sitting on the mat pursed his thin lips. After a pause, he said, “I’m a hacker. I can make money from this and support my brother, sisters, Grandma, and Mommy too.”
Willow felt warm inside after hearing her children’s innocent thoughts. She was just about to speak when her phone rang, so she went to the balcony to answer it.
Lara scolded Tristan, “What would a child know about hacking? Don’t spout nonsense, especially not outside. Watch your mouth. I heard that the money hackers make is illegal, and they have to go to jail for it.”
Lara’s knowledge was limited. She wasn’t trying to scare the children but was instead worried about them causing trouble. It would be awful if they were thrown in prison for going down the wrong path.
Tristan kept quiet and lowered his head as disappointment filled his dark eyes.
“Alright, alright. I’ll go over at night.” Willow returned to the living room after her call.
She smiled at Lara and said, “I can work part-time at night, so don’t worry.”
“You should shape up and stop causing trouble. Set an example for your kids.” Lara sighed.
She did care for her daughter, but life was just too hard. She had no choice but to push her or else their family couldn’t survive.
“I understand, Mom,” Willow replied obediently.
After dinner, Rachel’s parents called her, urging her to go home.
Rachel had to leave.
Lara stayed home to care for the kids while Willow went to Cloud Realm.
This time, even the nightclub’s manager noticed the discrepancy in her identification. “You’re not Lara, are you?”
Willow pursed her lips, sounding guilty as she said, “This is my mother.”
