At the same time, Jed walked over, positioning himself in front of Mona's car, effectively blocking her from getting inside.
Mona's face turned pale as she fixed Ruth with a cold glare. "You're not Steven's acknowledged sister, nor are you my mother-in-law's daughter. That means I'm not your sister-in-law. I don't deserve the title. Move aside."
Ruth's smile faltered for a moment but quickly returned. "Mona, we're both women. Do you really have to be so heartless?"
Jed chuckled loudly. "Ruth, your sister-in-law's got some fire. Pregnant and still stunning—imagine if we recorded something scandalous with her. Think your stingy brother would pay up? Maybe... 100 million?"
Ruth's eyes narrowed into a calculating smirk. "If it were just her, he might not. But with his child involved? That's a different story."
The plan was simple—Mona had to experience the crushing sensation of being surrounded by people taking compromising pictures of her. That would surely be enough to break her arrogance.
Upon hearing this, Mona's face went ghostly pale. Without betraying any panic, she discreetly pulled out her phone and dialed the preset emergency number—something she hadn't expected to use so soon.
Simultaneously, she turned to the bakery staff by the door and shouted, "Help me! They're trying to kidnap me!"
The area wasn't completely deserted. A few people on their lunch break were milling around, and several turned to look in her direction. Some even began moving closer.
Caught off guard, Ruth and Jed hesitated. This was their first attempt at kidnapping someone, and Mona's quick thinking threw them off balance.
"She's making it up! I'm her husband. She's just throwing a tantrum because I didn't handle her pregnancy mood swings well," Jed said quickly, improvising.
Ruth jumped in, opened the car door, and shoved Mona inside. "I'm her sister. My brother-in-law's right. She's been emotionally unstable ever since getting pregnant. We just need to calm her down."
Mona didn't respond to their words, and her silence seemed to lend credibility to their story. The onlookers began to relax, dismissing it as a domestic issue.
Mona regained her composure and allowed herself to be pushed into the car, mentally calculating her next move.
