Elsie couldn't shake the thoughts of what Alban had said to her the night before. The things he planned to make her do and the contents of that hard drive weighed heavily on her.
Every thought pushed her closer to breaking down. She was unable to bear it all.
She knew that her only option was to succeed. As for Skylar, she could only apologize. She truly couldn't bring herself to be with Alban.
After searching for information about Skylar the night before, Elsie learned that Skylar came from an ordinary background and now had a respectable job. She thought that Skylar was also a mistress.
Before Skylar, there had been Vera and Lizzie. They had both been involved with Joe before Skylar came into the picture. If not for Skylar's appearance, Joe would probably have married his then-fiancée, Lizzie.
Thinking about this eased some of the guilt Elsie had been feeling. She told herself that she was no worse than Skylar.
She was even younger. Joe would eventually come to like her.
Her heart raced at the thought, her pulse quickening. Ten minutes later, in the plane's first-class cabin, Joe and Paul had just settled into their seats when Elsie walked in.
She walked in and sat without a word, once again withdrawing into her world. She looked a little sad, still keeping her head lowered.
Paul couldn't help but find it strange. A mere assistant was sitting in first class. He couldn't shake the feeling that this young woman had her eyes set on Joe.
"Mr. Martin, I think she has her eyes on you," Paul said in a low voice.
Joe raised an eyebrow, his expression cool.
This sort of thing happened so often that Joe was no longer fazed by it. He had long since learned to ignore such people.
But Paul wasn't as indifferent. A warning bell kept ringing in his mind.
After the plane took off and the flight became smooth, Joe was resting with his eyes closed when someone suddenly appeared before him. A soft, delicate voice then broke the silence.
