Ludwik shook his head, his sharp eyes cold and decisive. "I’m keeping my trump cards for the end. Let those two think they've won, expose their greedy hands on the inheritance, and reveal their weaknesses."
“Damn it, I just hope to God that Whitney and Parisa are still alive!”
Parker, filled with frustration, pushed his chair away and stood up.
Ludwik clasped his hands together, his icy gaze waiting in anticipation. If Parisa were dead, his chances of avoiding conviction were slim. It would be a do-or-die showdown with Bryce, likely ending with them both in jail.
"Head back to the forest, Whitney's lost her mom, and her dad’s missing. She must be feeling so helpless right now. Oh, and don’t mention the pressure I’m getting from the President.” Ludwik advised sternly.
Parker nodded, thinking that at this point, Ludwik might lose everything under the President's thumb, but his priority was Whitney’s fragile state. He truly loved that woman.
Shane stood up too, frowning, "You’re now a wanted man, the situation outside can change in a heartbeat. I’ll keep an eye on the Lippert family for you."
“Thanks, Mr. Nelson.” Ludwik pressed his lips together.
After leaving the police station, Parker and Shane parted ways, and Parker drove straight into the forest.
As he began climbing the mountain, Parker received a call from Whitney. “Mr. Doonan, are you back? The rescue team and your security detail ran into some issues.”
“Whitney, what’s going on?”
“I don’t know why, but all the easy paths down into the canyon have been blocked by fallen branches, lots of them. The rescue team has to clear them before moving forward. It’s really strange. Plus, it just started raining, and the scent has confused the search dogs.”
