Her Heart Her Terms (Lily and Xavier) novel Chapter 412

Lily wondered if Xavier truly intended to stay. She shot that line of thought down quickly. Perhaps Xavier was just distrustful of her, not believing that she would keep up her end of the bargain.

She was forced to listen to him, but she didn't trust him. Xavier was different; not only did he not listen to her, but he also didn't trust her.

Lily wasn't lying when she said that she had hired a caretaker. When she went for her check-up earlier, she had stopped by the nurse station and voiced her request to the head nurse.

Lily never intended for Maryanne to stay. The latter was quite pampered, and she hated the smell of alcohol. Lily recalled a time when Marika had undergone a minor surgery—Maryanne had only stayed overnight at the hospital on the day of the surgery itself.

The rest of the ten days when Marika had been in the hospital, she had been cared for by the Devereux family's staff. Marika loved Maryanne very much and had been unwilling to allow her to be uncomfortable in the hospital.

After confirming that Marika had been alright, Maryanne hadn't spared a second thought for her mother. She wouldn't stay for more than an hour during visiting hours.

Lily knew that Maryanne's offer to stay had been sincere, but she also knew where to draw the line.

On the other hand, Xavier had made good on his word and stayed. He sat on the couch and worked, scribbling in his notebook every now and again.

The ward was so quiet. It was hard to breathe normally.

At the police station, Sarah had gone through a round of questioning and answered the officer's questions truthfully.

Bruce had provided phone logs to the police. The phone number belonged to her, but she had never called Bruce.

Sarah slowly realized that someone else was manipulating the situation behind the scenes. However, since Bruce didn't have any phone recordings, the phone logs were insufficient evidence to prove her guilt.

As the interrogation neared its end, a female police officer entered. She whispered something to the other officers in the room. The officers looked at her in unison before following her out of the room.

Sarah felt anxious, clenching her fists into tight balls on her thighs. Around five to six minutes went by before another female police officer entered the room.

She asked, "Have you been to West Meadow Restaurant recently?"

West Meadow Restaurant—Xavier had taken Sarah and Xyla there the other day. They had run into Lily and the Devereux family there.
