Her Heart Her Terms (Lily and Xavier) novel Chapter 327

This wasn't the first time this had occurred. Lily had grown numb to it over time, but each time it happened, she was reminded that she hadn't completely shut off her emotions.

She watched Xavier's arrogant stance and Sarah's smiling expression. Her hand clenched into a fist in her sleeve, her fingertips digging into her skin.

Two years of marriage had destroyed her illusions about family and shattered her expectations of what marriage should be.

The truth was, she hadn't even thought about finding another man after the divorce. Not divorcing wouldn't affect her future, as she had already given up on the idea of a second chance at happiness.

However, if she didn't get divorced, and if she stayed tied to Xavier for the rest of her life… The humiliation, the constant shame—how could she live with that?

Tears welled up in her eyes, but she forced herself to smile. The tears streamed down her cheeks as she sniffed, struggling to keep her sobs in check.

"I'm angry, but I'm at your mercy. There's nothing I can do about it. It's like being bitten by a dog. It hurts, but you have to bear it because you can't bite back."

She swallowed her anger and continued, "Besides if Ms. Lynde can tolerate being reduced to a mere title, what can't I bear?"

Xavier's gaze burned as he studied her, watching her pretend to be strong, but his words were aimed at Sarah. "Don't let the PR department waste time on nonsense. Just focus on your work."

Sarah hesitated. She parted her lips but was unsure of what to say. "This..."

Lily threw the car keys onto the desk, the sharp sound echoing in the otherwise quiet room. "The car's yours. I won't touch your things again. They're too dirty! And stick to your word. Let's go our separate ways!"

She wiped the tears from her cheeks, pushed past the two of them, and left.

Xavier barely moved, his deep eyes following her retreating figure. However, Sarah lost her balance and tumbled onto the sofa when pushed.

She raised her eyes, pretending to be shocked. "Xavier, is Mrs. Fulton still misunderstanding us? You should go explain."

Lily's tears seemed to weigh on Xavier's heart.

His expression darkened as he sat back at his desk. "She thinks I'm dirty? Ha!"

"Xavier..."
