Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1297

Agnes took a deep breath. "Elton, I can't go with you."

It was as if Elton had anticipated this answer all along. The hours Agnes spent in that room felt like the longest days of his life. He had braced himself for the worst.

So when Agnes said she needed to stay, it was almost as though he had expected it. A sense of resignation and sorrow washed over him.

Elton slowly walked over, standing beside Agnes. He gently wrapped her in his arms. "Agnes, no matter where you are, I won't leave you. No one can tear us apart. The person your heart loves is still me, isn't it?"

Agnes remained silent. With her memory stuck at eighteen, her heart knew only Elton.

Softly, she pushed him away. "Elton, I've lost my memory. I don't know what happened in those eight missing years, but what's done is done. I have to face it. Right now, I'm not in the mood for romance. I just want to accept my current life. I need time. If my memory comes back, great. If not, I might need a long time to come to terms with everything."

Elton nodded. "I understand. Since you've decided to stay, so will I. But remember, Agnes, you're the only bride I'll ever have in this life."

Agnes felt a pang of emotion. She never imagined she'd go through so many ups and downs with Elton. From childhood to now, she'd heard that promise countless times. In her memory, there was only Elton. But why had so much changed? Yet she couldn't blame anyone.
