Find Me In Your Labyrinth novel Chapter 1589

"Nope!" Charlie retorted coldly, "The minute you said you didn't like me, we had nothing left to chat about! You owe me, just pay me back. What you promised me, just do it. You don't need to apologize to me, nor bring up our past. Between us, it's just debts, no feelings."

A pang of pain hit Emily's heart, tears threatening to spill. She tried hard to keep it together, not wanting to show weakness in front of him.

Charlie was right. There were no feelings between them, just the debt she owed him. Once she paid him back and his anger faded, she would be free.

Charlie leaned back on the couch, eyes closed, not sparing her another glance.

Emily said nothing more, waiting in silence.

Half an hour later, everyone in the chat group Betty created confirmed they were home.

Emily put away her phone, "I'm leaving!"

Charlie opened his eyes and stood up, "I'll walk you out!"

"I can take a cab," Emily replied instantly.

Charlie turned to look at her, his face sullen, "Why are you so jumpy? You can't wait to cut ties with me, right?"

Emily kept her head down, not uttering a word.

A surge of anger welled up in Charlie, and he said coldly, "I'll just walk you to the front door. I won't go up!"

Then he strode out of the room.

Emily took a deep breath and followed him out.

Since Charlie had been drinking, he let Kent do the driving.

They both sat in the back. Charlie glanced at Emily looking out the window, trying to suppress his anger. He resented Emily's naivety as much as he resented himself.

The ride was quiet. They stopped downstairs at the Sunset Ridge Building. Emily said a quick thanks and got out of the car.

"Emily!"
