Defying Fate: The Unstoppable Eileen novel Chapter 391

In the surveillance room, Commander Dirk shot up from his chair, his eyes wide with urgency.

Major Morris's face darkened as he leaned over the table, listening intently.

Tom's instructor was fuming. "This Eileen character, she's really pushing it!"

Commander Dirk frowned, his voice tense. "She hasn't pulled the trigger yet."

"But her hand's on it!" Tom's instructor argued, his voice rising. "If she does pull it, I'm pushing for immediate expulsion! The army has rules! It's not some playground for lone wolf antics!"

Tom's instructor was beside himself, and not just because Tom was his student. Eileen's actions were a blatant challenge to the chain of command.

Rivalries between different branches of the military academy were nothing new. Just like in regular universities, there were always cliques and hierarchies. But no matter how fierce the competition, taking out the commanding officer on the battlefield was a line no one could cross.

If disputes with command during missions led to such drastic measures, what would that make a soldier? A rogue, not a hero.

Tom's faults would be noted by the examiners, but if Eileen resorted to vigilante justice, she'd lose whatever moral high ground she might have.

Commander Dirk's hands gripped the edge of the table, his eyes locked on the monitor, his jaw tight with tension. He couldn't afford for Eileen to make that irreversible move.

"Eileen, stay calm...," Joel, the leader of Unit Seven, pleaded, his face pale. Eileen had saved his life earlier, and he couldn't just stand by and let her ruin her future.

"He's one of us," Joel added.

Eileen's gun was steady, aimed right between Tom's eyes. Tom's face was dark with fury, his fists clenched. "Go ahead, shoot me," he sneered. "You'll be the villain, not the hero."

Eileen smirked, her lips curling into a sly grin. "Maybe I'm just doing everyone a favor."

And then, "Bang!"

A chorus of gasps erupted as the gunshot echoed.

The room fell into a stunned silence, whether in the surveillance room or on the field.

Major Morris was about to mark a failure on the evaluation sheet when Commander Dirk barked, "Hold on!"

Major Morris paused, confused. On the screen, Tom was cowering, hands over his head, but there was no red smoke, no sign of a hit.

Tom slowly looked up, his swollen face a mask of disbelief.

Eileen had fired her gun into the air, a warning shot.

But their commander was nearly scared out of his wits.

Eileen snorted, twirling her gun before bringing it down with a swift motion. "Thunk!" The butt of the gun connected with the back of Tom's neck, and he crumpled to the ground, unconscious.

The rest of the Blue Team stood there, mouths agape, staring at their fallen leader in the mud.

Eileen slung her gun over her shoulder with a casual air. "Well, don't just stand there. The commander's injured; get him back for treatment. I'll take over as acting commander in the meantime, unless anyone objects."

Joel was momentarily speechless.

The leaders of Units Three and Four exchanged glances.
