Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 849

Just as his lips were about to meet Marguerite's, she raised her hand and slapped him.

The sound was sharp, echoing in the room.

Marguerite could clearly see the five distinct finger marks on the man's face.

"Are you out of your mind? Get a grip, will you?"

Marguerite yelled, shaking her hand, which was slightly sore from the impact.

It was odd—why did his skin feel so strange, almost as if it wasn't flesh at all?

Before she could dwell on it, Stella rushed over, having heard the commotion between the two.

She thought they were in a full-blown fight and quickly positioned herself in front of Marguerite, protectively, looking at Silas with panic in her eyes.

"Mr. Ward, harassing a lady could land you in jail! Don't you dare lay a finger on my sister-in-law!"

Silas remained silent, his eyes never leaving Marguerite.

Marguerite's heart was pounding, unsure if it was from the almost-kiss or genuine anger.

Her breathing was uneven, and she finally understood what he meant by "testing" her.

He was trying to see if she had any feelings for him.

Marguerite looked at him coldly for a moment, her words cutting: "Don't waste your time. No matter what you do, I won't care."

"And if I marry Violet, would that not bother you at all?"

Marguerite watched his chest rise and fall, suddenly speechless.

Silas marrying Violet was something she had always thought she wanted.

But why did her chest feel so heavy?
