Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 838

Time seemed to freeze for a moment as Marguerite stood there, stunned.

How did Maurice get in here?

She thought for a moment and quickly pieced it together.

Maurice had been keeping an eye on her, always one step ahead. He knew she was meeting new people, so how could he not know about Silas?

Chuck had told her before that Silas was a big deal internationally, that anything Maurice wanted to export had to go through Silas first.

But no matter how powerful Silas was, straightforward and honest people often fell prey to those who played dirty, and Maurice was a master of the latter.

He could make any man interested in her vanish without a trace; who’s to say he wouldn’t do something to Silas?

Marguerite wanted to quickly send Silas away, but it was too late. He was already walking in, carrying Hayes.

Seeing a strange man in Marguerite's home, Silas paused, taken aback.

Maurice, however, didn’t seem surprised. He rose from the couch, his gaze lingering on the scarf around Marguerite's neck before quickly masking his reaction.

From the moment they had parted that afternoon, he had someone watching her.

He knew exactly who had given her that scarf.

So, had Teresa taken his words to heart?

Had Frederick and Marguerite already reunited?

He wrapped an arm around Marguerite's waist, his eyes subtly sizing up Silas.

“Why are you home so late? It’s already dark out.”

Marguerite instinctively tried to push him away, but Maurice caught her hand in his.

Silas frowned, his expression a mix of jealousy, anger, and confusion.

He certainly didn’t seem like someone who had regained his memories.

And it didn’t appear he and Marguerite had reunited.

Maurice concluded this internally and soon noticed Hayes looking at him, offering an explanation:

“Uncle, a classmate got sick today, so I went to see her... Mom came to pick me up, and we got back late...”

Uncle?
