Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 826

As soon as they left the hospital, Marguerite and little Margot headed back to school.

It was the end of the school day, so Margot barely waited for Marguerite's car to come to a stop before she dashed off towards the familiar SUV parked under a large oak tree across the narrow street.

From where Marguerite stood, she could see Silas stepping out of the driver's seat and gently securing Margot in the backseat's child safety seat.

Margot seemed to chat with him about something, and Silas cast a glance in their direction. His eyes were as deep and sorrowful as ever, carrying a meaning Marguerite couldn't quite decipher.

Silas always looked at her like that, and it made Marguerite's heart race with unease.

She wanted to avoid the confrontation, but felt she should at least get out of the car to explain Margot's little bump on the head. Yet, before she could even open her door, Silas had climbed back into the driver's seat, started the engine, and drove away.

Not a single word was exchanged between them, but it left Marguerite with a mix of emotions.

She shook her head, trying to stop herself from overthinking. After all, her and Silas's paths had only crossed a week ago. There was no need to get so emotionally tangled.

She quickly pulled her thoughts back to the present as the backseat door swung open, and Hayes and Manley clambered in, all smiles and energy.

"Ms. Marguerite, Uncle Tony just dropped us off, and we saw your car! Did you come especially to pick us up?"

Marguerite glanced at the two excited boys through the rearview mirror and simply nodded, "Yep. I'm taking you home today."

Manley cheered, while Hayes remained as composed as ever.

Once they were securely buckled in, Marguerite started the car and drove away from the school.

She had planned to drop Hayes and Manley off and then head back to her apartment, but as soon as they stepped into the house, an unusual buzz of excitement greeted them.
