Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 808

Marguerite was caught off guard by Silas's words.

Was this his way of confessing?

Instead of feeling happy, she found herself more confused by what he said.

"Don't pin everything on me, Silas. You sound just like a player right now."

Silas leaned back on the couch, his eyes suddenly shimmering with a pleading look as he gazed at Marguerite. "Then tell me, what should I do?"

"What does that have to do with me? I don't love you."

"You let me come and go from your apartment as I please. You knew I was a stranger and didn't change the lock code. When I showed up just now, you didn't seem surprised. So, Marguerite, can you really claim you're being honest?"

His eyes, so much like Frederick's, shone brightly, deep and endless like the ocean.

Marguerite met his gaze, almost ready to surrender and lose herself in it.

He was right.

Since Silas left the apartment yesterday, she had plenty of time to change the code.

But instead, she found herself staring at the spread of delicious food he prepared, lost in thought.

She didn't want to figure out why she acted this way, so when Silas bluntly pointed it out, she felt both guilty and angry.

"Silas, stop pretending you know me so well. I've never loved you, and I never will. We've only known each other for three days. Your love may come cheap, but mine doesn't. I have someone I love, my husband, and I'll never love anyone else in this lifetime."

Silas kept his eyes fixed on her.

She mentioned her husband, yet he was surprised to find himself not angry at all.

A wry smile played on the corners of his lips. "Oh? You don't say. I almost forgot we've only known each other for three days. It feels like much longer."
