Nadine had just stepped out of the bathroom when she found Zayn standing still by the floor–to–ceiling window, his face clouded with frustration. The sunlight bathed him, accentuating his tall, commanding figure, making him appear even more striking 

Her heart swelled with affection as she approached him quietly, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind. “Zayn, what are you looking at?” 

She slid her hands under his suit jacket, but Zayn quickly seized her wrist. 

“Nadine Sommers,” he said sharply. “Did you really lose that pair of shoes?” 

Nadine’s face stiffened when she heard him call her full name. She quickly withdrew her hand and, pretending to be displeased, turned away. “Zayn, what’s gotten into you? You’ve been pestering me over a pair of shoes for an entire day and night.” 

“I’m asking you,” Zayn repeated, his voice firm, “Did you really lose them?” 

She sighed. “Of course I did! Why would I hide them? i wouldn’t do something like that.” 

“Fine,” Zayn said. “Now sit down and think. Where did you take the shoes? Who did you meet?” Nadine paused before asking, “Why? 

Zayn said firmly “You need to find those shoes. If not, Mrs. Shaw will have you blacklisted.” 

Nadine’s face tumed pale. “over a pair of shoes? Is she crazy?” 

Zayn replied coldly, “Since you know she’s crazy, think quickly. We need to find those shoes today, no matter what.”

The shoes weren’t lost, she had hidden them. It wasn’t because she liked them, but because she wanted to make Josephine uncomfortable. She never expected Winnie to care so much about them.
