Chapter 20
“You believe his nonsense? Zayn glared at Josephine, his anger barely contained.
“I’ve told you so much, and you don’t listen to a single word I say, but you actually believe this kind of garbage? Even an idiot wouldn’t buy that, and yet
you do?”
Josephine was trembling with rape. “Zay, what right do you have to talk to me like this? I’m asking you nne last time, are you letting go or not? The more forceful her question, the darker Zayn’s gaze became, his eyes blazing with intensity.
No, I’m not letting go. In fact, not only am I not letting go, but I’m also going to beat him up and smash the hand he dared to use to touch you”
Splash
Before Zarn could say another word, Josephine grabbed a glass of water from the table and threw it straight into his face.
It was just a glass of plain water–not much, and not even cold.
But the act itself was drenched in humiliation.
A few nearby guests, who had already been quietly observing the escalating argument, gasped audibly, some covering their mouths in shock. Nadine rushed over after hearing the commotion. For a brief moment, a smirk flickered across her lips before she quickly masked it with an expression of feigned concern
“Oh my! Mr. Forbes, are you okay?” Mrs. Forbes, what are you doing? In a setting like this, humiliating Mr. Forbes like that–don’t you think that’s too much? It people recognize him and this gets out, how is Mr. Forbes supposed to save face? Nadine exclaimed.
Josephine turned sharply toward Nadine, her eyes like daggers. “Shut up. This has nothing to do with you
Nadine flinched, her face paling momentarily before she recovered. Her expression shifted, tears pooling in her eyes as she spoke in a pitiful, aggrieved
“I didn’t mean anything by it. I just think you’re being unfair to Mr. Forbes. I understand you’re trying to get his attention by staging a scene with another man, but look at the man you chose.
“He’s poor, low–class, and ugly, and now he’s acting inappropriately on top of it all. Honestly, even if you’re trying to make Mr. Forbes jealous, this guy is so beneath you it’s embarrdising She said.
Simon, already pale from the tension and misunderstanding, flinched at Nadine’s cruel words. His entire body trembled, and his head dropped low.
He really wasn’t someone worth showing off.
Even just sitting next to Josephine seemed enough to drag her down, to male others look down on her.
“Haven’t you said enough?”
Josephine’s grip tightened around the water glass in her hand, barely restraining her anger. She was this close to hurling it straight at Nadine’s smug
face.
“One more word and I’ll make you wash your face with red wine right here!”
Nadine froze, stunned, Josephine–who was usually known for her gentle demeanor–had never spoken to her like this before.
She quickly darted a glance at Zayn, silently pleading for him to intervene.
Look at her!
The woman he claimed to love wasn’t as soft and delicate as he thought. She was ruthless, aggressive, completely unhinged!
But Zayn merely wiped his face with his hand, his icy gaze fixed on Josephine. His eyes were as cold and dark as a frozen lake, unreadable.
There wasn’t a single trace of disgust or contempt in his expression, only jealousy and anger.
Nadine swallowed her bitterness, forcing herself to maintain her pitiful act.
“Why are you being so mean? I was just being reasonable. And now you’re acting like some uncivilized show!” she said.
