I replied, "He did, but it wasn't 5,000 dollars. He also didn't give my mother any money. All he gave was 3,000 dollars every month."

"No way!" Chloe refuted immediately.

She continued, "Forget the jewelry—a single piece of clothing he bought for Jessica cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Are you saying your living expenses over the years were less than the price of Jessica's dress?"

That was the truth, but I knew Chloe hated me. No matter what I said, she would never believe in me.

I raised my chin and signaled Chloe to turn around. I said, "Your son's here. If you don't believe me, ask him."

Chloe turned around and hurriedly approached Steven. She exclaimed, "Steven, you're finally here! Quick, tell Zane how poorly Annalise treated you when you were married. She forced you to work tirelessly just to earn enough money to support her and her mother!"
