Angered by Zachary's words, Steven slapped Zachary on the cheek. Immediately, Zachary's cheek flushed red from the slap. As Zachary covered his cheek, he stared at Steven in disbelief.
Steven was also in disbelief. He asked, "Since when did you become so cold-hearted? You're abandoning your own mother?"
Zachary glared at Steven and replied mockingly, "I don't think you should be the one to call me that. I'm just young and unaware of the dangers in society, and I was tricked into doing bad things. But I am willing to bear the consequences of my choices.
"But what about you? You chose to abandon your wife and your son, yet you regret your decisions now."
Zachary laughed mockingly and continued, "I think that as compared to having you show up in front of Mom, telling her that you love her and how much you regret it, she would prefer if you stay away from her."
Zachary spat like his words were a toxic knife, "You're so selfish, Steven Pelham. Before the divorce, you never gave Mom the love she wanted, and you mistreated her. After the divorce, you refused to give her the peace she wanted, and you disturbed her every day.
"You never asked what she wanted, and you only cared about your own happiness. The biggest mistake Mom has ever made was being with you."
Then, Zachary got into the car. He didn't care how sad Steven seemed.
Harry felt sorry for Zachary and asked, "What's the deal with Mr. Pelham? He said he's cutting ties with you, so why did he slap you? Who does he think he is?"
Harry heard of what happened to Steven. He couldn't say much about Annalise's decision to abandon her son and ex-husband; after all, she didn't have a choice. But what about Steven?
Steven made all the choices for himself, so he didn't have the right to blame other people!
