When the call connected, Elaine smacked her lips playfully as she chirped, “Oh, my dear son-in-law, why are you calling me at this time?”
Charlie said with a smile, “Mom, how is your recovery?”
Elaine smiled and said, “It’s good, very good! I’m having shark’s fin, abalone, cordyceps, and sea cucumber every day, and I have better nutrition than soccer players! The doctors here are also very skillful, so my leg is recovering quite well.”
Charlie said, “That’s good. Claire graduated from her class today, and we plan to check out and go to New York in the morning tomorrow. We will return to Aurous Hill together after we pick you up.”
“Return to Aurous Hill?” Elaine’s tone instantly sounded depressed, and she said, “My dear son-in-law, it’ll be boring once I return to Aurous Hill. My leg in this state will be inconvenient, and I'll have to trouble you and Claire in our daily lives. I think it’d be better for you and Claire to go back first. I'll stay here for a few more days to recuperate and return to Aurous Hill once I recover!”
Charlie felt helpless for a moment.
He was willing to let Elaine stay in the United States. After all, as the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind. However, Claire still did not know about her mother’s hospitalization. If this matter kept dragging on, Claire would definitely get suspicious, and things would certainly get out of hand then.
Therefore, the best solution would be for Elaine to return with her. If Claire saw Elaine limping again tomorrow, Elaine could say that she accidentally fell when hanging out with her friends and not that she was beaten up and got her leg broken when she was still the Ferocious Ghost of Bedford Hills Correctional Facility.
So, he said with some difficulty, “Mom, staying in the hospital every day is not as comfortable as coming home. Besides, you’re unfamiliar with New York, so it’s definitely not that much fun for you to be alone. After you come home, I can ask The Heaven Springs to deliver those delicacies to you every day if you still want to eat those. It certainly will not be worse than the food you ate at the hospital.”
Elaine, who was feasting on the hospital bed, thought about it for a while and thought to herself, 'Although I get to eat and drink well and have people serving me every day when I stay here, I can only be in the ward or the green lawn downstairs every day, which is meaningless. When I return, I can quickly sell the same necklace that Charlie gave me and get some cash. I'll also have Hannah flattering me every day. Wouldn’t that be a good life then?'
