“Okay.” Christian agreed and asked Merlin, “If she is in New York and asks me if I have any news about you, should I tell her the truth or lie to her first and wait for you to surprise her in person?”
Merlin thought for a moment and said, “If she asks you, tell her that you have found some clues, but you want to tell her in person. Ask her to meet up with you, and I will surprise her in person then.”
“Okay.” Christian nodded and then took out his cell phone immediately, making a call to Merlin’s wife, Josie Clinton.
When the call was connected, an excited voice came from the other end of the line, “Christian, do you have any news about Merlin?”
Christian was slightly startled, and he deliberately said, “Sister-in-Law, I have some clues here. Are you still in New York? I’ll come to talk to you in person.”
Josie, who was on the other end of the line, asked in a pleasantly surprised voice, “Really?! What kind of clues? I’m in Washington now, and I’m getting ready to go back to New York. One of my university friends has some connections in Washington, so I came to ask for her help. The plane will take off in half an hour, so we will be in New York in about an hour and forty minutes!”
Christian said, “How about this, then? Josie, tell me your flight number, and I will arrange for someone to pick you up at the airport. Let’s meet up and talk.”
Josie asked nervously, “Christian, tell me the truth. Did something happen to Merlin?”
Christian hurriedly said, “No, no. I’ll use my character as a guarantee that it's good news! Tell me your flight number, and you don’t have to worry about the rest.”
Josie’s excited voice was a little choked up as she replied, “That’s great...”
With that said, she said to the people around her, “Joy, your Uncle Christian just called and said that he has good news about your father.”
“Really?!” Joy’s voice came from the other end of the phone. She grabbed the phone and asked excitedly, “Uncle Christian, you’re not lying to us, are you? Do you really have good news?”
