"So, even the great Mr. Harris has days where he doesn't feel like working, huh?" Regina teased with a twinkle in her eye as they sat across from each other in a cozy corner of the café.
Nolan cracked a grin, tilting his head slightly. "I'm human, not a robot. Of course, there are days when I'd rather do anything but work."
"And how do you deal with that kind of funk, Mr. Harris?" Regina prodded, her curiosity piqued by the thought of the unflappable Nolan Harris being anything less than industrious.
Nolan's answer caught her off guard.
"Simple. I play hooky. Perks of being the boss," he quipped with a wink.
Regina couldn't help but laugh. "You've got quite a sense of humor, Mr. Harris."
Sipping his coffee, Nolan changed the subject. "So, Ms. Tanner, what's this all about? You didn't ask me out just to chat about some piece of land, did you?"
Regina shook her head, her resolve evident. "No, it's not about that. But if you're willing to talk, I'm all ears. Actually, it's..."
She hesitated, biting her lip, suddenly unsure. Was she too impulsive, confronting Nolan about why he had helped her? It might seem presumptuous as if she thought there was more to his actions than simple goodwill.
"You're not usually one to hold back, Ms. Tanner," Nolan observed, arching an eyebrow.
Regina met his gaze, her eyes sparkling with determination. "How do you see me, Mr. Harris?"
