Given the content of her previous conversations with her boss, Regina deeply doubted her female colleague's speculation.
Regina had zero expectations; she wasn't the type to get her hopes up. But that didn't stop the rest of the crew from buzzing around like excited bees at a picnic, their paperwork long forgotten in the wake of the latest drama.
Ahab was smirking like the cat that got the cream, convinced the boss was about to roast Regina at the upcoming staff meeting. Maybe, just maybe, this troublesome newbie would finally be shown the door.
The thought of having no one left to challenge his reign over the water cooler conversations had Ahab practically jumping for joy.
Strutting past Regina's desk with a stack of files, he leaned against her cubicle with an obnoxious "tsk."
Regina didn't bother looking up; engaging with him was about as appealing as a soggy sandwich.
Inwardly, Ahab chuckled, imagining Regina’s surprise when the critique hit her out of the blue. His hubris swelled.
"Yeah, you might as well savor your time here, 'cause who knows? You might not be warming that seat for much longer," he sneered, his cryptic jab drawing eyes from every corner of the office.
Regina's lips curled into a mocking smile. Ahab was truly a ham, soaking up the attention like a sponge with each step he took between their desks – his arrogance ballooning with every gaze.
Curiosity got the better of one coworker who sidled up to Ahab. "Hey, Ahab, you sound like you've got the inside scoop. Is Boss really gonna can someone at the meeting? Why else would you say that?"
Ahab shot him a condescending glance. "Just sit tight, and you’ll find out at the meeting, won't you? I might know a thing or two, but loose lips sink ships, my friend."
