The cops had seen their fair share of hotheads and loudmouths causing a ruckus with no real purpose. They usually kept to their own tasks, letting the outbursts wash over them like water off a duck’s back. 

But Tessa was making a scene that could not be ignored. 

“And that guy earlier, who does he think he is? He acts like his head’s in the clouds! So what if he’s some big shot from the underworld? That doesn’t give him the right to push us around in here! Where did everyone go? I want to file a complaint!” Tessa’s tantrum was so disruptive that an officer finally stepped in to handle the commotion. 

“Lady, if I were you, I’d think twice before bad-mouthing Mr. Howard. Crossing him can have consequences that most folks wouldn’t want to mess with,” the officer said sternly, sending shivers down Tessa’s spine. 

Tessa huffed, “And who is Mr. Howard?” 

“Oh, you don’t know Mr. Howard? He’s none other than the famed CEO, Balfour Howard! Let me put it this way: everything around here, except for this police station, is owned by his company. Your apartment might even be one of his developments! The man could shake the business world with a mere stomp of his foot. And you dared to shout at him? Ignorance really is bliss, huh?” What? Tessa and Finn exchanged a look of disbelief. They had never imagined that Ivy, the family’s black sheep, could snag such a big fish! 

Recalling how she had ranted at Balfour, pointing fingers and almost getting physical…
