The Kiss that Sparked it All novel Chapter 1718

Ellinor's voice was as gentle as a summer breeze. Her eyes were filled with a warmth and sincerity that made Baber want to nestle in her embrace.

But then, in a flash, he snapped back to reality.

He could never compete with her biological children and could never vie for her affection, for fear of being sent away at any moment.

With this in mind, Baber said with a serious expression. "Thank you, Mommy, for always being so kind to me, but I'm a big boy now. I need to learn to be independent. I want to sleep on my own from now on."

Ellinor looked slightly helpless. "You're not even five yet. What kind of big boy are you?"

Baber's lips tightened into a firm line, a picture of stubborn determination.

Seeing this, Ellinor didn't want to crush her son's desire for independence, so she gently stroked his head and said, "Alright, if you want to sleep alone, then you can sleep alone. Mommy won't bother you. If you want Mommy in the middle of the night, you can always come find me."

Baber nodded. "Okay."

Ellinor got up. "Then you can read your book first, and I'll call you when it's time for dinner."

Baber watched his mother leave the room with a hint of sadness in his eyes.

Truthfully, he didn't want her to leave. He wanted her to stay and keep him company, but he didn't dare say it since he didn't feel entitled to ask.

His mother was probably going back to spend time with his siblings, Adrian and Layla. He didn't want to interfere.
