However, he still missed the time when he was an only child.
Back then, his dad was still at home, and his mom would only fuss over him.
It was blissful.
That was when he first experienced the warmth of a family. But not long after, his mother left him because she was pregnant and had to give birth to his siblings.
Even though he didn't fully understand why his mom had to leave, he clearly felt that he was less important to her than the child in her womb.
Indeed, how could he compete with the children in his mother's belly?
How could an adopted child compare to a biological child?
He was simply overestimating himself. He thought too much of himself by thinking that he held the same status as his siblings.
Today, he realized that whenever the snacks were limited, he was the one who wouldn't get any.
Actually, he didn't necessarily need to eat that bag of snacks, but he still felt disappointed.
His heart was heavy, conflicted, and insecure. He longed for attention, yet he felt that he didn't deserve to hope for it.
Baber's mind was in disarray as he sat at his dad's desk and flipped through the comic books his dad had bought him. He couldn't focus on the books because his head was about to explode.
Later, he put down the comic books and returned to his room, still in his depressed state.
That room was a nursery that his dad had prepared for him a long time ago. When his mom returned, he started to sleep with his siblings in his mom's room, rarely sleeping on his own.
Now that he understood his place, he thought it would be better to sleep alone here in the future, so as not to take up space and compete for his mother's love with his siblings.
Even though he knew he was not valued, he still cherished this home because he had nowhere else to go.
He didn't even know who his biological parents were or what their names were.
