Sophia held the man's gaze, unable to detect any signs of deception on Marcus' face. It seemed like he genuinely didn't think there was anything off about their son.
"Maybe I'm just overthinking." Sophia chuckled and speared a piece of fruit, holding it up to Marcus. "Have some more fruit, Marcus. It's good to load up on vitamins."
Marcus nodded, taking the fork from Sophia's hand.
After seeing Marcus accept her offering, Sophia couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. She relaxed and stood up. "You two enjoy your fruit. I'm going to see what I can whip up for lunch. It's the weekend, and I don't have any plans."
Marcus simply thanked her softly. It wasn't until Sophia was well out of sight that he gently placed the piece of fruit back on the plate, uneaten.
Sophia, oblivious to Marcus' action, headed straight for the kitchen. While opening the fridge to scout for ingredients, her phone rang.
Balancing the ingredients in one hand, Sophia answered the call with the other. "Hello?"
The voice on the other end was her father's most trusted right-hand man. "Miss, it's me."
Sophia glanced over her shoulder at Marcus, ensuring he was preoccupied. She answered in a hushed tone. "Well? What did you find out?"
