The Indifferent Ex-Husband: Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate novel Chapter 632

No sooner had Sophia's words trailed off than the vice-like grip on her hand was instantly released.

Brandon turned to look at her.

"Sorry, I..."

He seemed about to apologize, but the words died on his lips, his expression heavy with guilt and self-reproach.

This unexpected side of her threw Sophia for a loop.

"It's... it's okay," she blurted out, trying to be comforting. "It didn't really hurt."

Brandon's gaze on her was complex.

This was the Sophia he knew, yet not quite the same.

Since their divorce, she rarely showed this vibrant side of herself.

Every time she faced him, she was cool and collected.

But this playful and spirited Sophia was the girl from their youth, the one he met again at seventeen.

The only version missing was the one scarred by life who had grown distant and detached.

Brandon couldn't put his finger on his feelings; he felt like he was on a roller coaster, swinging between heaven and hell.

If before it was only Yolanda he had lost, now it felt like he had completely lost Sophia too.

She was back, but only in body.

All the memories of her own, of him, of Theresa, were gone.

Her looking towards Harvey Ferber again, almost pleading for help, sent a sharp pang through Brandon's heart.

Harvey Ferber caught that fleeting look of pain in Brandon's eyes.

He addressed Brandon, "Mr. Crawley, I'm sorry, our little sister has just recovered from a serious illness. She's not yet strong, and we shouldn't tire her out. We're going to head back and rest; please, carry on."

With that, he gently took Sophia's arm to lead her away.

Almost at the same moment, Brandon caught Sophia's wrist.

His grip was gentle, not causing her any pain.

Harvey Ferber wasn't upset, just calmly looked towards Sophia, "Are you going with him?"
