Asher searched every corner of the hotel, but the person he longed for was nowhere to be found.
“Ash!” Bella sprinted after him with all her strength, grabbing his stiff arm. “Don’t panic! I’ll help you find Arnold!”
“He’s nowhere to be found… Nowhere!” Asher’s straight back gradually bent, and droplets fell onto the floor, uncertain whether it was sweat or tears.
“Bella… I have a bad feeling. If I fail to bring Arnold back this time… I might lose him forever. I will have forever lost my soul mate...”
“No! If Arnold had truly given up on you, he wouldn’t have come here today! The fact that he did means you still have a place in his heart!” Bella held onto Asher, trying her best to comfort him.
But pain burned deep in Asher’s bloodshot eyes. He shook his head.
“Arnold returned only to testify for Justin. He came because he values loyalty and friendship. In his heart… I no longer have a place anymore.”
“You do! You do! If Arnold truly didn’t care about you, he would face you with indifference. He would act naturally, as if nothing had happened. But he ran away without a word. That means he's avoiding you. He’s just…”
“He’s just unwilling to see me. Seeing me only brings him pain and anger… Isn’t that right?” Asher let out a bitter laugh. His heart was being ripped apart.
Just then, Ian approached the siblings. “Ms. Thompson. Mr. Asher.”
Ian hesitated for a moment. His voice was hoarse as he looked at Asher. “Mr. Asher, you don’t have to search anymore. Dr. Larson has already left the hotel.”
Asher’s voice was raw, his eyes bloodshot. “Where did Arnold go?!”
“He didn’t say… But he asked me to relay a message.”
Carrying a heavy burden, Ian lowered his voice. “Dr. Larson said… You don’t need to look for him anymore. He doesn’t want to see you right now.”
He softened the words, unwilling to repeat Arnold’s exact phrasing. It was too cruel, and he could not bring himself to say it.
Asher froze. It felt like his soul had been ripped from his body before it shattered into countless pieces mid-air.
