Lydia could tell that Dr. Funke was letting personal grievances interfere with his professional duties, but she dared not voice it aloud. Hearing Rosalind's blunt critique, Lydia couldn't help but admire her. Ms. Whitman sure didn't mince her words, speaking her mind without reservation.
Thalassa clenched her fists, furious yet powerless to speak. She couldn't bear to see Lysander in pain, but Dr. Funke had indeed given him the treatment. If she spoke out and Dr. Funke decided to retaliate by refusing to treat Lysander or preventing Lydia from administering the treatment, what then? So, even though her heart ached for Lysander, she prioritized the bigger picture.
"If you think my medical skills are lacking, feel free to have your security escort me out. Otherwise, quit questioning my technique!" Dr. Funke retorted with a scornful smile to Rosalind.
"I..."
"Rosalind, it's getting late. You should visit your father in the hospital!" Lysander interjected, effectively telling Rosalind to leave. His tone left no room for argument.
Rosalind understood Lysander was subtly pushing her away, thinking she was causing a scene. Her mood, just beginning to recover, plummeted once again. She took a few deep breaths to calm her frustration before turning to leave.
David, ever observant, noticed Lysander's displeasure and realized his presence was only exacerbating Dr. Funke's irritation, especially since Dr. Funke's remark was a dig at him. He had thought Lysander would be furious at being treated like a guinea pig, but to his surprise, Lysander calmly accepted their care. Clearly, he had misjudged the situation.
With respect, he said, "Mr. Sinclair, Dr. Funke, Ms. Everhart, if there's nothing else, I'll take my leave."
"Go ahead," Lysander allowed.
