The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart novel (Brittany and Isaac) novel Chapter 28

Brittany walked into VelvetGlow Jewellery with her latest designs under her arm. After Frank gave them a once-over, he gave her a nod and sent her on her way. Looked like he was pretty chuffed with her work.

Later, back at her desk, Brittany fired up her computer and started browsing an apartment rental website. Isaac’s two-bedroom apartment was a bit rough around the edges but it was located on the fringes of the prime district, so it wasn’t exactly a steal.

She had her eyes on a studio apartment but the prices skyrocketed once you got anywhere near the city center. She eventually settled on a property close to VelvetGlow Jewellery. It was a bit dated but it was conveniently located and the décor was right up her street.

Once she made up her mind, Brittany set up an apartment viewing for Hannah after work.

One of Brittany colleagues spotted her scrolling through the rental site and asked, surprised, "Brittany, you're moving out?"

Brittany replied, "Yep."

"That's a decent block."

The colleague who spoke was always friendly with Brittany, keeping her mouth shut when everyone else was busy brown-nosing Sydney.

She kept a low profile but Brittany suspected she came from money, hence why she never sucked up to Sydney.

Upon hearing that Brittany was moving, Sydney's first thought was – has Brittany finally been kicked out?

Isaac wasn’t a mug, he couldn't possibly marry a copycat!

Sydney strutted into Frank's office and when she came out, she shot Brittany a smug glance.

After lunch, Brittany was called into Frank’s office.

“The client loved your designs and has doubled the commission.” Frank poured her a cup of tea, his demeanor mellow. “Just like last time, Sydney will be credited for the work.”

Brittany couldn’t believe her ears. “You said last time was the last time, that it wouldn’t happen again!”

The colleagues outside the office, hearing the commotion, threw curious glances their way.

Frank slammed his hand on the table. “Brittany, I’m the Deputy Director, and I call the shots here. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you!”

Even if Brittany had talent, he would always give Sydney the credit, what could Brittany do?

Brittany snorted, bit the hand that fed her?

“What’s so funny? Brittany, everyone in our industry knows you’re a habitual copycat. VelvetGlow Jewellery gave you a chance to shine and you should be grateful! If clients found out a copycat designed their jewellery, we’d lose business. Who’s going to cover that loss?”

Frank tried to manipulate Brittany into thinking that even being allowed to design at VelvetGlow Jewellery was a blessing. She shouldn’t be asking for credit, and she should be thanking them for the opportunity!

“Bullshit!” Brittany snapped back. “Thanks for giving me the opportunity to design, to be Sydney's doormat!”

“Well now, I’m telling you, I quit!”

Brittany threw the documents in her hand at Frank's face, her eyes burning with rage. “I have never copied anyone's work and I won't be used! Pay me my salary for the month or I'll see you in court.”

She was sick of Frank’s constant scheming and stealing her credit!

VelvetGlow Jewellery was the design company she dreamt of working at in college, but now, she saw through its teeth. It wasn't as great as she had imagined.

Frank, infuriated by her words, snapped back, “Fine, let's see how you survive without VelvetGlow Jewellery, and who would want a copycat like you!”

Brittany opened the office door, gathered her things, and prepared to leave.

“Hold on.”

Sydney blocked her path, reaching out to inspect her belongings. “Brittany, since you’re leaving, we should check your things. We wouldn’t want you to take any important documents, causing the company a loss, would we?”

Brittany felt a slap in the face. She knew Sydney was trying to make trouble.

“Sydney, don’t push it!”

“So what if I pick on you?” Sydney threatened, her voice low. “Brittany, don’t forget, I know where your grandma is buried.”

She was implying she would desecrate her grandmother’s grave if Brittany didn’t do as she was told.

Brittany froze, her eyes welling up with tears.

“Can I get some help here?” Sydney called their colleagues.
