Ms. Mia and the eldest daughter of the Cedillo family were sticking close to Naomi, doing the rounds and greeting everyone with a polite smile.
Jade tried to make a quick getaway, but Mia snagged her arm. "Don't even think about bailing."
Molly almost made it to the door when she was caught. She whispered, "C'mon, you're my sister, aren't you? If you are, let me sneak out."
Mia clenched her jaw, whispering back, "If you're my sister, you'll stay and help me handle this circus."
Without Molly, the older folks would direct all their questions at Mia: "When are you and Andre having another baby? You should give Henry a little brother or sister while you're still young." "I heard you're going for further studies, Mia. What school did you get into? What's your major?"
But with Molly there, the chat shifted a bit: "When's your due date, Molly? Are you having a boy or a girl?" "Have you graduated yet? What's your job now?"
By the door, the sisters texted their partners for backup and then braced themselves to face the older generation again.
"So, Mia, when's the next baby coming?"
Mia: "You'll have to ask my husband about that."
"And Molly, a boy or a girl?"
Molly: "You'll need to ask my doctor."
Andre and Chad arrived at the hospital almost at the same time, and like knights in shining armor, they were instantly swarmed by their ladies.
Henry’s fever had gone down, and he was feeling better, though still a bit weak from not eating well. Sitting on his grandpa's lap, he looked at his parents with the curious eyes of a little tiger cub.
