I looked up, frowning at the man who had the audacity to spew nonsense. I was suppressing the anger rising in my chest. No matter what, today was an important day for me and Eric. Even if it wasn't our wedding anniversary, it was still the day we officially became allies.
Eric seemed to share the same thought I had. Ignoring the ranting man, he simply took my hand and continued walking toward the exit.
However, our silence only emboldened the man. Ignoring his fiancée's attempts to hold him back, he stepped forward and blocked our way. "What's this? No apology? Do you think you run the city clerk's office or something?"
Eric shielded me behind him and said coldly, "You're the one who bumped into us. There are surveillance cameras over there. You can check for yourself."
The guy snorted. "Check the cameras? By the time we do that, you'd be long gone. I don't care. You ruined our lucky wedding hour. You'll have to compensate us with at least three grand!"
I stared at him indifferently. So, the guy was just a scammer.
"Three grand?" I looked at the guy. "That's probably not enough, is it? How about ten grand? Would that be sufficient?"
His twisted expression turned excited at my words, and he immediately nodded. "Of course! The more compensation, the better!"
I smiled and turned to Eric. "Did you keep the camera recording on?"
Eric nodded. "Of course."
Following our gaze, the man's face paled as he noticed the portable camera strapped to Eric's chest that was glinting under the sunlight.
Today, for some reason, Eric had abandoned his usual cold business-minded demeanor and insisted on using a portable camera, saying that he wanted to document the first day of our alliance. Although I found it a little embarrassing, I had no reason to refuse, so I went along with it.
Who would have thought that it would actually become evidence?
The moment he saw the camera, the man's cocky attitude crumbled on the spot. He tried to act casual, but his voice wavered. "Let's just forget it. Today's supposed to be a happy day. I'll let you off this time."
The moment he finished speaking, he bolted from the scene.
Before I could even react, Eric turned to me with an amused look in his eyes. "That guy works at your company."
