Mysterious Mr.Richard novel Chapter 40

The air in the office was gloomy.

Richard's cold eyes were like an abyss. Pearl's words made him swallow his pain. 

He was calm as he faced the woman whom was once the most important to him.

He kept quiet, so Pearl thought he was guilty.   

She hugged Bonny tightly in her arms and tried to make her tone sound calm. "I'm telling you for the last time, the kids have noyhing to do with you. Don't bother them again. Otherwise, I'll call the police."   

"Call the police?" A hint of mockery flashed in Richard's calm eyes. He smiled instead of being angry.

"I think a huge company like Zellweger Group wouldn't want any troubles because of their president's private behavior, right?"

Even seven years ago, Pearl was not nasty when she broke up with Richard and left Kityall City. She was always bright, positive and never mad.  

She buried thier love in her memories and left everything behind.

Maybe she was cruel and had forgotten everything.

He was the only one who would not let it go.

If Alex were not here, Richard would have strangled her and forced her to think of the past and ask her why.

"Mommy, It's me. I brought Bonny here."

Pearl looked stiff and lowered her head in shock. Brandon was tugging her shirt and looking up at her carefully.   

"What?"

"Bonny badgered that she wanted to meet Uncle Richard. I had no choice but to bring her here. Uncle Richard was too busy, so we stayed here the whole afternoon, and she even fell asleep."

Brandon explained everything clearly.

Pearl went numb.

She didn't think about anything. Only because Richard had doubts about the kids, when GPS showed they were in the Zellweger Groupsaw, she subconsciously thought that Richard took them away.

This was what she had been scared the most for these years.

She knew that it was impossible for her and Richard, and she was afraid that someone would find out the kids' identities. She was worried that Richard would take them away from her.

Her fear haunted her.

"Police still?" Richard's cold voice echoed in the office. He stood between the sofa and the table, and his tall figure cast a shadow on the carpet under the irradiation of the chandelier.

 Pearl's face turned pale. "I'm sorry. I thought..."

"Am I the one making a fool of myself?" Richard did not wait for her to finish. He glanced at Alex behind her and sneered, "You don't have the time to care for your kids, but you have time to hang out with a man, huh? Are you even a mother?"  

"Richard, how could you say that?, We..." Alex tried to explain.

"I don't care about you and her." Richard shot a cold stare at Alex and added, "I have no interests."

Alex was choked.

Pearl was annoyed. She wanted to apologize, but she couldn't say anything when she saw Richard's cold face. For a long time, she squeezed out, "I'm really sorry."

 "If you don't leave now, I'll call the police." Richard was indifferent. 

Pearl looked shamefaced. She muttered her apology again before leaving.

At the moment she stepped out of the office, Bonny wokr up in Pearl's arms. Resting her chin on Pearl's shoulder, she rubbed her eyes and spotted Richard in the office. She called out, "Daddy."   

Her voice was very light, like mosquitoes. Then the door shut, and she disappeared.  

With a loud clang, all the dishes on the table crashed on the floor.

Mia came in and saw the mess on the carpet.
