The plane had taken off. The flight was smooth, with no turbulence. There was a faint scent of wood inside the plane, the freshness of dry amber and the spice of vetiver, with a hazy sense of comfort. Nicole looked through the window at the sky outside the plane and sighed softly.

Jared heard her sigh and turned his head to look at her silently as if asking her what was wrong.
