I didn't know much about the details of the past, but from Hendrix's expression, that incident was a heavy blow to him.
He continued, "But in fact, your grandmother did not agree with the Milton family doing those illegal things. She left with the box in order to warn them and let them repent in time, so that they could turn themselves in as soon as possible. It was not until the day of the accident that my grandfather learned about the Milton family from your grandmother, but it was too late. Eddison Gavlin ordered the Milton family to kill my parents before the task force arrived. We rushed to the hospital, and all we saw were my deceased parents. The hospital said that they did not even have time to rescue them."
Hendrix clenched his fists as he spoke about his sorrow. His knuckles were visible and the veins on his forehead bulged out.
My heart softened. I placed my hand over the back of his hand and patted it gently to comfort him. I could empathize with his grief, as I had gone through my share in the past ten years.
"Don't hide from the truth." Aaron had been eavesdropping at the stairs all this time. Suddenly, he leaned out and came downstairs, looking at me in dissatisfaction. "Arianna, seriously? You're such a let down. Is this all you wanted to know?"
After Yana got married, Aaron's temper became worse indeed.
He questioned, "Hendrix Roberts, I'm asking you once and for all. When you switched Arianna's paternity test results, were you really afraid that she would leave you? Or were you thinking that it would be easier for you to control Andrea? You already knew about the relationship between Arianna's grandmother and the Milton family, didn't you? You wanted to take revenge on Arianna, didn't you?!"
"Aaron!" Maybe it was because I was afraid to face the truth, I subconsciously wanted to stop him from asking. But after calling out his name, I lost confidence.
After all, I had to face it. How long could I avoid it?
