I nodded and sat down in his lap. I curled myself up into a ball and asked, "Is Evan going with you?"
He wrapped my hair with a towel and said, "No, he can't. His wife is about to give birth to their second baby any time soon, so he has to stay and take care of her."
I was surprised to learn that Evan's wife was having a second child. I looked at him with guilt in my eyes and said, "Hendrix, I'm sorry." If it weren't for me, we would've had a second child by now too.
He smiled and continued to wipe my hair with the towel, saying, "What are you sorry about? I am responsible just as much as you are. I have been negligent in protecting you. It will be fine in the future. Having Anne is enough. Don't overthink too much about this. Haven't you always wanted to apply for a master's degree? Why don't you prepare for it and take the exam next year?"
He still remembered this. I smiled faintly, nodded, and said, "Alright, then I'll go ask Zachary for some materials and start preparing for the postgraduate entrance exam. It might even be a nice way for me to kill some time while I wait for your return. You have to come back soon. Why don't you ask Mr. Lawson to accompany you to Asherton?"
"No need, I can settle everything by myself. He can stay in Jarold City. He deserves some rest too. It's going to be the New Year soon and he will need to prepare to return to Oakland as well," Hendrix replied.
This was true. After all, Sheridan's family was in Oakland. He had been staying in Jarold City all this time. He must have been missing his family terribly.
Thinking of the party Valerie mentioned before, I couldn't help but look at Hendrix and said, "My mom mentioned that Sawyer is in Jarold City. We can meet with him and have a meal together. We are all family. He is technically my brother by name, so we should catch up soon."
He nodded and answered, "I'll leave everything up to you. When I come back from Asherton, we can bring Anne up to the south for a period of time. Haven't you always wanted to spend some time by the sea? It's perfect to go there in the winter."
