Then, Gail and his family were surrounded by a swarm of people. They started cursing and questioning them. Luckily there were people stopping them from acting impulsively, or else the family members of the deceased would've shred Gail apart.
The commotion attracted a huge crowd and everyone gathered around. There were people saying that they should be civilized, while some said that they should avenge their deceased son. The entire scene was chaotic. Laura and the children were crouched on the floor trembling, whereas Gail was completely shaken to his very core.
Life had always been harsh on them, but what was worse was the feeling of helplessness. Gail was well aware that no one was willing to listen to what he had to say. Thus, he just kept his head down and let them continue their cursing and scolding.
My wrist was grabbed by someone and I was taken aback. I lowered my head and saw that Abby was staring helplessly at me.
I was stupefied. She stared at me and said, "Madam Reid, please save my mom and dad. I'm
begging you."
I frowned and looked at her, "Abby, this is beyond my control."
There was only so much kindness in a person. Everyone was driven by motives and desires. I was not an exception. Sheridan was relieved when he saw that I was reluctant to help. He stared at me and said, "You can't be involved in this. You have a child in your belly, so you can't get yourself into trouble."
Of course, I was well aware of that, which was why I refused without any hesitation.
