My Pretty Sweetheart novel Chapter 1367

Valerie was there just as the elevator door closed. As Pedro was nowhere to be seen, she asked anxiously, "Where's your father? Why didn't you stop him? Something bad could happen."

"He said he's going to look for a doctor. He told me not to follow him."

Valerie anxiously pushed the elevator buttons, and she almost broke into tears. "He could have called up the doctor. Why would he have to go personally? He is definitely not just meeting a doctor. Arianna, we have to stop him. He's up to no good. It has taken him quite a while to finally get over his past. Now, he is determined to live a peaceful life, and I don't want anything bad to happen to him. Otherwise, my hopes will be dashed.”

I sensed something was amiss. I looked at Valerie and said, "Mom, tell me honestly, what's happening? I'll chase after him. I’ll get Hendrix to help out if I can't stop him. Would you please calm down and tell me everything?"

Valerie burst into tears while nodding. I called Hendrix and got him to contact Pedro. Then, I led Valerie to the corridor to take a seat.

Once she composed herself, she asked, "Arianna, have you heard of organ trading?"

I broke out in a cold sweat. Flabbergasted, I shook my head and said, "Mom, tell me frankly, what's going on?"

As she raised her hand to wipe tears off her cheeks, she said, "There is nothing in the world that can't be bought. With money and power, nothing is ever out of reach. Anything you desire could be at your disposal. Organ trading has crossed your dad's mind ever since Anne fell sick. Having been in the underground society for so many years, he reckons this is the way to save her. But I objected on grounds that we are leading a peaceful life now. Hendrix and you are getting on much better now. On top of that, you’re pregnant. If your father gets involved in an illicit organ trade, the Moores and the Roberts families would indirectly be implicated. It's not that I’m being selfish... But the fact is that too many people would be impacted!"
