Alice walked over, and lightly pressed on the keyboard. Then the screen lit up.
Then, Alice saw a mail that had already been sent from her mailbox account.
She frowned, running her fingers over the keyboard and calling out the contents of the email. She didn't know whom the mailbox account belongs to, but the contents of the attachment were very clear to her when she opened it.
It was two videos of William burning gifts.
Who did he send this to?
Alice thought for a few seconds, then came back to reality. Yes, it could only be Patrick.
Why did he have to provoke Patrick again?
Alice sat down on the side of the bed, her hand raised up stiff for a few seconds. Then, she tapped the mailbox to continue sending messages and typed in the next few words.
"Leave, the farther the better."
She didn't know if there was anyone by Patrick's side who would read these for him. If they saw it, they would probably listen to it, right?
Hopefully, William's jealousy was only ignited by the situation for a moment, and would quickly pass.
Alice hesitated for a while, but still pressed Send button and turned off the computer. She stayed in the old house and waited quietly for William to return.
One hour after another passed, but he still did not come back. Instead, she got a call from Daniel.
She picked up the phone. "Daniel."
"Alice, why isn't Mr. Cullen answering the phone? I have urgent matters here." Daniel asked anxiously.
Alice stood at the door and looked into the distance, not seeing William's figure in sight, she could only say, "He is working, maybe he did not hear the phone ring, so if you have anything urgent I could go and tell him."
"This..."
Daniel was a little hesitant.
"Daniel, is there something you need to keep secret from me right now?" Alice said. Then Daniel spoke on the phone, "I didn't mean that, it's just that Mr. Cullen and I both did not want you to worry too much."
"What's going on?"
Alice asked.
"It's Lancaster. Last time, after they received Jeanne's half-fake and half-real documents, they began to attack N.E. I'm deeply worried that though the situation is being controlled by Mr. Cullen right now, he hasn't taken next step yet. Anything had to be done first to gain the upper hand.
However, the usually straightforward Mr. Cullen hesitated this time.
"Didn't you tell William earlier?" Alice asked. Actually, she also thought it was strange. When William sent Jeanne out, he had already taken charge of the whole situation, but then he just left this aside to accompany her back home.
"Yes, but the he said..."
"Said what?"
"He said he wanted to be with you more." Daniel said and sighed.
Hearing this, Alice's hand unconsciously pressed against the door beside her, her eyes dimmed. He had left behind such an important game just because of her.
Stupid.
"Daniel." Alice said, "I do not understand the deceit of businesses, nor do I understand all the rivalry competition between clans. But I want to know, how big is William's chance in this war with Lancaster?"
"Alice, you must believe in him!"
"Daniel, I'll only believe your judgment." Alice interrupted Daniel. There were too many things she did not understand, each time she judged the severity of the matter purely based on how William acted.
Daniel became silent over there. After a long time, Alice heard Daniel sigh, and said, "Alice, honestly speaking, I do not know, that's a hundred years old clan which must has something extraordinary for it to be able to hold on until today. But Mr. Cullen is unceremonious and intelligent, and has won almost every battle of the last few."
"Therefore, it's hard to say for sure about this final battle." Daniel stopped here, and swallowed his words so as to not provoke her, "but this time it's must going to be a very tough fight".
"I understand, Daniel. I will advise William to return as soon as possible."
Alice said and hung up. Leaning on the door alone, and looked into the distance with empty eyes.
She had always felt that this fierce battle would come very late. She and William still had a lot of time, but now she realized that Lancaster was no longer willing to give them time.
Alice reached out her hands to stroke her stomach, wishing there's still a lot of time for William to watch the birth of their child.
She no longer wanted William to stay behind with any regrets.
At dusk, the golden light fell upon this small district.
When William found Alice, she was at the fitness equipment area. She was sitting alone on the equipment that could massage her back and exercise her arms, but instead of exercising, she used the cold device as a chair.
The broken light fell on her face and dyed her long hair. She looked especially gentle.
"Why are you here alone?"
William strode towards her.
Hearing her voice, Alice did not turn back, but quietly sat there instead, "I'm thinking about something."
She had a lot of things on her mind.
"What is it?"
William walked to her side and stood still.
She smelled a hint of burning on the corner of his clothes. It seemed that he had burnt quite a lot of gifts.
"I don't know." Alice raised her face, and forced out a smile, "How many gifts have you found?"
"Eight."
William replied as he leaned on the equipment behind Alice.
"So fast. Have you gotten used to the fever?" Alice asked lightly. There was no blame but indulgence.
