Seeing the car coming towards her, Rachel suddenly recalled that previous tragedy, and twisted the steering wheel aside to avoid a collision.
She couldn’t handle any more misfortune at the moment.
Passing by the other car without incident, Rachel slipped into the flow of traffic going along the street and went on her way.
Meanwhile, Tyson brought the car to a stop in a parking spot by the roadside.
Jasper opened the door and stepped out, revealing his glossy black leather shoes and immaculate suit trousers.
He stood up to his full, considerable height, a handsome man who naturally radiated an aura of class and power.
Tyson followed him into the Hughes Corporation headquarters.
In the lobby, Jessica was in a whispered conversation with Fanny, when she felt an imposing presence approaching from behind.
She turned around to look. It was the CEO, Jasper Hughes.
She scrambled to get out of his way, and she lowered her head to show deference to the boss.
Long legs carried Jasper into the lift, serene and dignified. The very air seemed to vibrate in his wake. He didn’t even seem to notice anyone in the lobby.
While Jasper went on up in his personal lift, Tyson hung back, curious to know what the girls at the front desk had been gossiping about.
“Hey girls,” he began, “I’m curious to know what the two of you were gossiping about, whispering like that.”
Jessica hesitated. Tyson Ward was the key personal aide to the CEO himself. A man in his position was not to be trifled with. To disappoint him would be tantamount to disappointing Jasper Hughes himself.
She couldn’t refuse to answer him, so instead she gave him a sheepish smile, and made something up: “Well, Mr. Ward… we were just talking about how handsome you and Mr. Hughes both are!”
She punctuated this with a hearty thumbs-up, her tone as well as her expression both full of believable sincerity.
Tyson was quite pleased to hear this.
The women here were always fawning over Jasper—but this was the first time anyone had ever complimented his own good looks.
