Joan said as she handed it to Wendy, "Ms. Specter, here's the document from the planning department."
Wendy shook off her thoughts and sat back in her chair. "Let me take a look."
Recently, the company had been focused on one major project, and as the manager of the entire department, Wendy had been working overtime.
As Joan was about to leave, she looked up at her and said, "Tell everyone that once we finish the project, I'll apply for a bonus and give everyone an extra day off."
Hearing Wendy's words, Joan's eyes lit up. "You're the best, Ms. Specter."
Wendy smiled. "Go on, then."
Once Joan left, Wendy was about to open the document when something crossed her mind. She glanced down at her flat stomach and pressed her lips together.
Her thoughts then drifted to the scene she had seen yesterday—Aiken entering a restaurant with a famous actress. She sighed deeply.
Shaking off the distraction, she turned her attention back to the document. Work was probably the only thing that could numb her emotions and help her regain focus.
During lunch break, Joan came in to ask, "What would you like for lunch?"
Wendy wasn't very hungry and was about to turn her down, but then she remembered something. "I remember you once ordered some pasta for me. They were really good."
"Got it. I'll order it now."
Wendy didn't have much time for a proper lunch break these days. And with food delivery being so convenient these days, she usually just ordered in.
A few minutes later, Joan returned. "Someone wants to see you, Ms. Specter."
Still focused on the document, Wendy didn't immediately look up. She asked, "Who is it?"
