Joe gave a brief hum of acknowledgment as the car pulled over. Lucas quickly retrieved the hangover medicine and handed it to him.

Only after Joe had taken the medicine did Lucas start the car again. At this hour, there was hardly any traffic or people on the road, making the journey smooth and uninterrupted.

Lucas was sure he had her figured out. He got out of the car and immediately confronted the woman standing in front. "It's dangerous out here at this hour. What if I hadn't seen you and accidentally hit you? Move out of the way. You're just a young woman—how can you be so reckless?"

"I need to see Joe," Elsie said, her gaze fixed on the car.

Elsie could make out a figure inside the car but thought the interior was too dark to identify anyone.

"Mr. Martin doesn't have time to see you. You need to come to your senses. Don't keep daydreaming. Do you realize what you're doing right now?

"It's shameful. Do you want the media to see you like this? Are you ready to lose your reputation? What will you do then?" Lucas scolded, hoping to drive Elsie away with his words.
