"You're all cold-blooded creatures! You'll face retribution! Every one of you earns so much money, you're so rich! Why should I work hard and struggle?
"I was born to be pampered, a wealthy socialite—not some lowly laborer! You'll all get what's coming to you!" Ruth screamed into the night.
The street was mostly deserted. Her bitterness and resentment fell on deaf ears.
What she had just told Harvey was true—she was completely out of money. She couldn't understand how she had spent it all after just a few meals and some skincare products.
And then there was Jed. He said he liked her, but after spending a night together, everything changed.
When they went shopping the next day, she had simply admired a luxury handbag and wanted to buy it, but Jed outright refused. Outside the store, he even slapped her and said she wasn't worth the price of the bag.
If she had known this earlier, she wouldn't have spared a glance for someone as plain and ordinary as Jed when they were in school.
She ended up with Jed because she was now left all alone in Jipsburg, longing for the love and protection of her brothers.
However, every single one of them had met her with cold indifference.
Being with Jed felt like she was doing him a favor, as if he didn't even deserve her. But now…
As she watched the endless flow of cars on the road under the streetlights, she felt utterly alone.
Her parents were no longer reliable. She couldn't count on her brothers either. Even Skylar wouldn't compensate her.
What was she supposed to do? She really didn't have a single cent to her name.
Before going to Harvey, she had called her mother, only to hear her mother incoherently demanding money, saying she needed it to buy something. She was completely out of her mind!
Ruth couldn't understand it. Her family used to be like any normal family. Why had it all come to this?
A gust of night wind swept past. Ruth took a deep breath, trying to clear her thoughts.
