The past couple of years had been incredibly hectic for everyone.
Charles often found his schedule flipped upside down with night shoots, while Skylar was equally consumed with her work.
Their opportunities to meet in person were rare, often limited to brief moments at home. Even their family group chat only saw occasional messages exchanged.
Phone calls were even rarer between them, so infrequent they could practically be counted on one hand.
Skylar started the call by saying she missed him and then asked how he had been lately. After catching up, she switched the conversation to Maxine.
"You've been watching web series too? Her series is popular, and she's undeniably talented. She has a lot of potential and a unique spark for someone her age.
"But something's been off these past few days—she hasn't been herself during filming. She keeps forgetting her lines and has been scolded by the director a few times. Maybe there's trouble at home or something."
Charles didn’t think too much about it, casually sharing his observations. However, Skylar listened carefully, her expression growing serious. If Maxine's behavior was different from before, it could very well be because of a sudden rebirth.
"Charles, can I come visit the set?" Skylar asked.
Charles was surprised. "Are you a fan of Maxine now?"
He couldn't recall Skylar ever showing much interest in celebrities. She once praised Austin's acting and claimed she admired him too. But she had never gone this far for anyone in the industry before. Now, she even wanted to visit the set just to see a young actress.
That was something new.
"I just miss you," Skylar said lightly.
Charles chuckled knowingly. "Alright, alright, I'll take that. We've got a night shoot coming up, so I'll let the crew know. You can drop by directly.
