Over the years, he had developed a habit of lighting a cigarette whenever he encountered something troubling, though they all said he never used to smoke. 

This unconscious habit puzzled him. 

The doctor had explained it was due to excessive stress, claiming he was prone to illusions. He wondered if it was just an illusion. 

For some reason, his mind drifted back to that message he hadn’t replied to. 

Skylar’s name had taken over his thoughts. Skylar… a voice in his head told him that she was supposed to be his woman, that they were meant to be together.

Just as he was about to pick up his phone again, there was a knock on the door. 

“Ned, it’s me.” 

Rosa’s tearful voice carried through the room. 

Ned set down his phone and went to open the door. 

The moment Rosa saw him, she flung herself into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably. “Ned, I fell asleep on the way back and had this horrible dream. You told me you were leaving me, didn’t love me anymore, and wanted to marry someone who could truly capture your heart. You looked at me with such cold indifference, pushed me away, and didn’t even try to comfort me while I was suffering.” 

“It was just a dream,” Ned replied, his body stiffening as he placed his hands on her arms. For some reason, he felt an urge to push her away. Over the past three years, they had indeed relied on each other, but he never liked physical contact with her. 

Rosa couldn’t stop, still drowning in her misery. “When I woke up, I thought it was real. I’m so scared, Ned. Everything in that dream felt so real 

“Ned, please promise me you won’t leave, I can’t live without you. Ever since we ran into Skylar, I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I feel like you’ll leave me for her at any 

moment. 

“Skylar is just… She’s too perfect. I feel completely insecure when I’m around her. It’s like the way you look at her is completely different from how you look at me. For the past three years, ever since you woke up from the accident and lost your memories, you’ve been pushing me away. You don’t want to be close to me.

her away. 

“You’re overthinking this. Wipe your tears,” Ned said coldly. 

He turned away to grab a tissue and handed it to Rosa. 

She bit her lip, staring at the tissue in disbelief. She wondered if she was overthinking but quickly realized she wasn’t.
