Ned furrowed his brows. “Just tell me how much you’re asking for in compensation. It’s important to clarify that Rosa reaching out to you yesterday was not my intention, and I was unaware of it.” 

Upon hearing his words, Skylar was taken aback for a moment. “Oh, my friend is asking for 100,000 dollars in compensation. As for Ms. Reese contacting me, I don’t mind. 

“However, please make it clear to her that I’ve only met you a few times and haven’t spoken much on WhatsApp, so there’s nothing going on between us. I would appreciate it if she doesn’t bother me anymore.” 

Ned’s frown deepened, a hint of irritation flickering in his eyes at her words. Skylar had no choice but to voice her thoughts. 

She continued, “I can forgive Ms. Reese. It’s clear she lacks some sense of security, so perhaps you could spend more time with her. Since you have no objections to my proposed 

compensation, I hope the payment can be processed quickly. I won’t disturb you any further.” 

With that, she stood up, ready to leave. 

Ned pressed his lips together, feeling a mix of frustration and confusion as he observed Skylar’s cold demeanor. She was setting clear boundaries, and her indifference only intensified his annoyance. Almost instinctively, he called out, “Wait.” 

Skylar paused and turned back to him. “Is there something else, Mr. Sowle?” 

“Add me back on WhatsApp.” His voice was low and firm. Since he realized it wasn’t her choice to block him but rather a result of Rosa’s actions, he asked her to add him back. 

For some reason, a voice inside him insisted that Skylar shouldn’t be cold to him and that her name should be visible in his contacts list. 

When he opened his WhatsApp, he wanted to see her profile picture as if she were right there 

beside him. 

This feeling had been especially strong just earlier in the hospital. Even when she was trying to set boundaries, he felt an urge to pull her into his embrace. 

This was a feeling he had never experienced before. It was unsettling and out of his control. 

Skylar was momentarily stunned, thinking she must have misheard him. “This isn’t necessary, is it? You wouldn’t want your fiancée to misunderstand, would you?” 

But when she caught the hint of dominance in Ned’s gaze, it was like seeing Joe standing before her instead of Ned.

Ned didn’t call after her again. His expression darkened instead. Skylar’s rejection stung like a slap, waking him up to the moment. 

He realized he had acted irrationally. He shouldn’t have said those things. He would likely never have another chance to see Skylar again, and he definitely shouldn’t have made Rosa feel upset.
