Arabella entered just then, interrupting Iris. "Princess Iris, it's getting late. How about we come back to this after a meal?"
If Rocco or Conor Durham were here, they would likely have acted directly against King Gawain I and Iris, falsely issuing decrees to reclaim the princes' powers, and secretly eliminating loyal officials one by one to usurp the throne. But Arabella, in her delusion, tried to delay Iris, sealing her own fate.
King Gawain I noticed Arabella's attempt to prevent Iris from speaking and seemed to suspect something. "I said… cough cough… let Iris speak!"
Ignoring Arabella, he turned his gaze to Iris, who was kneeling by the window, and asked softly, "Tell me, what has happened?"
Seeing her father's oblivion, Iris realized Arabella had not informed him of their defeat. "Father, Matthew Larson, the holy doctor of Cathay, slaughtered our troops during the siege. He has reached the threshold of grandmaster and is said to have already broken through. Our hundred thousand troops and tank brigade suffered heavy losses, yet the Minister of Border Affairs, Zedran, has not recalled them, keeping them stationed at the border!"
Boom!
Iris' words struck King Gawain I like a thunderbolt. He suddenly sat up in bed, his previously half-closed eyes wide open. The once-fading lion had awakened, and though his fangs were dulled, they could still kill.
The overwhelming aura made both Iris and Arabella turn pale. King Gawain I glared at Arabella, his eyes filled with sorrow and rage. "Guards, send Queen Arabella to the tower of isolation for a few years."
